The formation of Meals for Life was inspired by my mother, a dialysis patient.
I had the opportunity to meet many people who were dependent on dialysis for various stages of renal failure during the six years that I took my mother for her dialysis treatments.
I became very familiar with their dietary challenges, and the majority of them were in noncompliance with their dietary requirements as there was no quick or easy way to prepare their meals. As the nature of dialysis is such that it removes all nutrients from the body, there is an immediate need to replenish certain proteins. Because of this and the absence of a quick, easy, and healthy solution, bad eating habits would prevail causing a rise in phosphorus, potassium, and sodium levels.
I was disappointed to find that there was no healthy, convenient, and appetizing alternative, so my creation of Meals for Life is a tribute to the difficulties my mother and other dialysis patients have experienced in trying to manage their condition. I am excited that our fully prepared, convenient Meals for Life finally address this need making good nutrition a bright spot in their lives—with the added bonus of being readily available in the frozen foods section of local grocery stores.
